Nixon is a leader in the boardsports watch market. They make watches that are practical but look good, with a sense of adventure, risk and independence, and have expanded their range of high quality products, with great attention to detail, to include other accessories, clothing and footwear. Nixon watches now sponsor a team of professional surfers, skate and snow boarders, including skater Tony Hawk, surfer Andy Irons, and snow boarder Dave Donning. These guys really help out on the watches, one featured Tony Hawk singing James Brown’s ‘Get Up’ as an alarm! In 2008 Nixon released one-off watches with original celebrity artwork, donating all proceeds going to charity. Nixon was acquired in January 2006 from founders Andy Laats and Chad DiNenna, who founded Nixon in 1997 in Encinitas, California. Chad DiNenna spotted a gap in the market for action sports watches, and with Laats finishing his MBA at Stanford, together they raised $1 million to turn Nixon into a reality. It paid off, with their brand, and stores in 25 countries, being sold to Billabong for $54.6 million in 2006.
