Rip Curl is the third largest manufacturer and retailer of surfwear in the world. The company was started in 1969 by Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer in Torquay Australia. They started making surfboards and wetsuits, then in 1970 moved into surf clothing. Unlike its main large rivals in the surf industry Rip Curl is still a private company, and run high street stores around the world. The name came from a surfboard Doug and Brian had with 'Rip Curl Hot Dog' written on it, which they later confessed had no particular meaning.
