TYR is a US manufacturer of high tech recreational and competitive swimwear, including swimsuits, swim caps and goggles, for swimming and diving, water polo and triathlon. TYR was co-founded in 1985 by Olympic swimmer Steve Furniss, and is based in Huntington Beach, California. They worked with the US Olympic Training Center in 1999 on the first full body low resistance suits that reduced drag in the water by 6%. Again in 2004, TYR worked with institutions University of Buffalo and the State University of New York on new materials reducing drag by 10%. The brand is named after Tyr (pronounced "tier"), the Norse god of victory. Tyr Sports is a subsidiary of Swimwear Anywhere, the second largest swimwear manufacturer in the US, and more publically market the Beach House, Carmen Marc Valvo, CoCo Rave, and CoCo Reef swimwear brands and labels.
